A MAN stopped while taking scrap metal to an industrial estate for disposal has been fined for not having a licence.

Niaz Malik was driving his van full of metal piping, household radiators and scrap along Ray Lamb Way, Slade Green, towards the Darent industrial estate, when he was stopped by police and Environment Agency officers.

He said the metal came from his garage and he was taking it to a company on the estate.

An enquiry to the company showed eight other deposit notes for the same vehicle.

Mr Malik from Railway Street, Northfleet, was advised to register as a carrier of waste, but did not.

Last week he appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court and was fined £200 with £150 costs.
