FIGURES have been revealed showing poor sexual health in the area.
The capital has the highest rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in England, according to the Health Protection Agency.
Figures for 2009 show Greenwich has the 12th highest rate in London, while Lewisham ranks 14th.
For every 100,000 people in Lewisham, there were 1,187.9 with an STI compared to 1,219.8 in Greenwich.
Across the capital, infections are on the increase, particularly Chlamydia, which saw a 14 per cent jump from 2008.
Agency expert Dr Helen Maguire warned: “If we are to reduce this trend of poor sexual health in London then people must take responsibility for their own sexual well-being and ensure they use a condom with all new and casual partners.”
