A FIRE station is not only saving people’s lives but the environment too.
Greenwich fire station is one of 10 stations which is saving 242 tonnes of CO2 each year as part of Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s RE:FIT programme.
The station is now fitted with draught proofing on doors and windows, motion censored lights and an energy efficient boiler, which has reduced its gas and electricity consumption by 22 per cent.
Borough Commander for Greenwich, Andrew Rickard, said: “The Brigade is not only saving people’s lives but also saving the environment.
“The station has benefited from excellent energy efficient features which has dramatically reduced our carbon footprint and saved thousands of pounds on our energy bills.”
