A RAILWAY guard has been told to keep quiet by residents complaining he is waking them up.
Households in Peak Hill Gardens, Sydenham, have been woken up at 6am each day for the last three weeks by the yell of “behind the yellow lines” and “mind the gap”.
Sydenham railway station's guard informs passengers of approaching trains and shouts out safety advice with a megaphone.
But Lorraine Page, who has lived in the street for 29 years, is sick of the noise. She said: “My son’s bedroom is right opposite the platform where he stands.
“To be woken up before 6am is not on.”
The 50-year-old added: “He looks up at the display board and repeats what the loudspeaker says.
“There’s no-one on the other side of the platform. It’s just the side to London.”
Mrs Page’s son Stephen, 29, complained to station bosses after being left constantly tired at work.
Another tired resident, 65-year-old John Dewar, said: “He is still shouting. It wakes me up and it’s annoying. I can’t understand why he is there.”
A Transport for London spokesman said the announcements were important for keeping passengers safe.
He said: “Not all passengers are familiar with the station, which now offers a Tube-like service.
“It is important announcements can be heard over incoming and outgoing trains."
He added: “Our station employees have been reminded about the correct place to stand on platforms to make announcements and we will be continuing to monitor this is being adhered to."
