A TERRIFIED cat had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped under a jetty on the River Thames.
Around 10 firefighters from Woolwich station and a fire boat were called around 10.50am on August 20 to a jetty next to the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Woolwich Street.
An RSPCA spokeswoman said: “A member of the public contacted us saying they had seen the cat fall into the river.
“It was too steep a drop to for him to climb back so he was rescued with a fire brigade boat.”
The adult tortoiseshell male cat, with white markings on his belly, was checked by a vet and taken to The Lodge Cattery in Cudham.
Onlooker Lesley Johnson said: “It was a massive cat. It was obviously not a stray because it looked well fed.”
The RSPCA is now appealing for its owner call 0300 123 999 and quote reference 365 of 20/08/10.
