A FATHER-OF-THREE hopes to raise £25,000 for a children’s hospice by swimming the English Channel.
Robin Sumner, from Canterbury, will swim the 22 mile distance for Demelza Hospice Care for Children, which has a home in Wensley Close, Eltham.
The 38-year-old has been training since September last year and currently swims in the sea for seven hours a week in preparation for the 16 hour challenge.
Mr Sumner, a company director, said: “A grand a mile is worth it. Every time I get past a mile I will say I’ve raised another grand for Demelza.
"I am doing it for my kids because I want them to know how lucky they are.”
He hopes to swim one day next week depending on weather conditions.
