Biggin Hill & Westerham Lions Club held a promotional event in Main Road, Biggin Hill on Saturday 21st August. With the help of their mascot Roary they gave away nearly 200 goodie bags.
The Club was seeking to raise the publics awareness of its charitable activities in the community. New members are needed to help continue and expand its activities and anyone interested in finding out more is invited to contact the Club President Malcolm Lowing on 01959 576628 or visit www.bigginlions.2ya.com The Club was also promoting its next fundraising event – a Novelty Race Night being held on 11th September at St Theresa’s Church Hall, Haig Road, Biggin. The Race Night starts at 7.30pm and the ticket price of £6 includes a supper of Pie & Peas or Sausage & Chips. Tickets can be booked by phoning John Scott on 01959 574191.
Lion President Malcolm said "We are grateful to Barclays Bank for allowing us to use the space outside their branch and for supplying some contents for our goodie bags. We are also grateful to neighbouring businesses Occasions and Spitfire Cafe for the hospitality given to us on the day.
The successful event ended on a slightly sour note when President's wife Betty Lowing was clamped when she left her car for 2 minutes in the access road next to the Spitfire Cafe to escort Roary (who has limited mobility and visibility) to thr car. Needless to say, the clamping company, Parking Control Services, insisted on payment of £200 to release the car despite the circumstances.
