HE’S not Bob the builder but Boris the mayor hopes he can fix it with a housing design guide for the capital.

The London Housing Design Guide sets out the Mayor of London’s aspirations for the design of new housing across the city.

This includes guidelines on the minimum permitted amount of floor space and guidance on natural light and ceiling heights.

All housing built on London Development Agency land is expected to meet the standards which will also be applied to housing schemes applying for funding from the London Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) from next April.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: "This is the first step towards ridding London of the tiny, substandard housing which can blight communities for generations. “
