‘CONGRATULATIONS are in order’ for students across Bromley celebrating their A-Level successes today (August 19).
The pass rate is expected to be higher than ever before with many students awarded the new A* grade which was introduced this year.
Amongst the successes were pupils from Bromley High School, Blackbrook Lane, Bickley, including five who achieved straight A*s: Hannah Davies, Jenny Martin, Jess Oirschot, Alexis Tymon and Darcy Werner.
In total 76 per cent of its Upper Sixth achieved all A*, A and B grades with 44 per cent of pupils gaining A and A* grades only.
The school’s head teacher Louise Simpson, said: “I cannot congratulate the girls highly enough.
“ This was a tense year, with the introduction of the A*, we really did not know what effect it would have; but the girls have surpassed our expectations and really risen to the challenge.
“They have all worked with huge commitment and are justly rewarded for their efforts.
“That so many of these grades are awarded in traditional, academic subjects which carry so much weight at the top level universities is significant too; it means that our girls will have far greater choices available to them at university and beyond.
“For my first A-level results as head I could not be happier – well done to all the girls, their teachers and families who have supported them to achieve such outstanding results.”
Bromley Council’s director of children and young people’s services Gillian Pearson said: “We are understandably very proud of the schools in our borough and I’d like to pay tribute to some very dedicated head teachers and their staff.
“Congratulations are in order for all the young people in Bromley who showed such effort and commitment to achieve the results they were aiming for in their exams.
“I wish everyone good luck and success in their future studies and careers.”
