A GRAFFITI art project by a group of young people has succeeded in transforming one of their activity areas.
More than 100 youngsters took part in the project, organised by Trust Thamesmead, at the Wolvercote Road, ballcourt in Thamesmead.
The idea came from budding artist Darren Wells, 19 who works in the town.
The trust canvassed support from Thamesmead Youth Voice, a group of young Thamesmead residents who meet weekly and they gave it the thumbs up.
Gallions Housing Association, which owns the ballcourt gave its approval and the neighbourhood policing team applied for funding through the Police Property Act Fund.
Offenders on the Community Payback scheme sealed the walls and painted them white before the project began.
The young people chose to use graffiti as their art form and spent three days transforming the ballcourt.
Bexley mayor, Councillor Val Clark, who came to see the project, described it as “fantastic”.
