IT was a day to celebrate children’s play and there was no shortage of fun and games for youngsters to enjoy.

At Danson Youth Centre in Brampton Road, Bexleyheath, there was a host of activities, many of which are available year-round at the centre.

Sporting opportunities included karate, boxing, cricket and trampoline as well as skateboarding and BMX in the centre’s own Wheelz skatepark.

There was also an assault course to test children’s stamina, a series of giant inflatables, donkey rides, a planetarium, crafts and arts activities and a pets corner.

There were also activities for the under-fives with a baby gym and play area.

The centre was one of three projects helped with funding from the Big Lottery to celebrate National Play Day.

At Royal Park Primary School in Sidcup, the borough’s Play Rangers team were promoting the wealth of Bexley’s outdoor activities and there was a chance to try out the new play equipment at the Falconwood playground in Welling.
