A GROUP of Scout leaders will set off from Erith in the early hours of Friday on a marathon non-stop cycle ride.
The ride is the brainchild of Jamie Povey, 18, a professional magician and a leader with the 2nd Erith Scouts, based at St Paul’s Church in Mill Road, Northumberland Heath.
He said: “We were discussing ways of raising cash for the Scout group and I suggested cycling to Wales as a joke.”
But the joke has turned into reality, with Jamie and fellow leaders Tony Crowhurst, 33, Peter Green, 32 and Ian Dixon, 54, tackling a 230 ride to Snowdonia.
The Scouts will get a quarter of the cash, with the rest going to Cancer Research UK.
They have been training on racing bikes, which they will swop for two tandems on the day.
The group is hoping to make it to Wales within 24 hours and return by car on Saturday.
They have already raised £750 through a variety show and auction.
