A TRUCK driver who tried to evade a police check was caught carry waste without a licence.
The driver was fined £300 after trying to do a U-turn to evade an inspection cordon and being chased by police.
Despite not having a waste carriers’ licence, the open-back truck driver claimed to have been in the waste disposal industry for more than four years.
More than 100 drivers were stopped in Harrow Manorway, Abbey Wood, as part of a joint operation by Bexley and Greenwich Councils to clamp down on rogue waste carriers.
Police and enforcement officers will be setting up checkpoints at key locations across both boroughs stopping lorry, truck and van drivers to check for the relevant documents and give out information packs.
A second driver was fined £30 for an insecure load and another for driving a vehicle he was not registered to drive.
