The Merton Business Awards 2010 in association with WSM Partners LLP are heading towards a successful conclusion with 44 different organisations shortlisted across twelve categories.

The awards, launched in May, showcase and reward business. The businesses in the running for this year’s awards cover estate agents, restaurants, retail outlets, a photography company, and a theatre company, as well as a salon and magazine companies.

“It is terrific to see such a wide range of businesses being shortlisted for Merton’s first business awards and despite the proliferation of legal and financial firms within the borough it is reassuring to see that there are so many vibrant business sectors represented amongst the finalists. We are also delighted to see that enterprises both large and small, new and long established and from all sides of the borough have been selected by the judges and we look forward to an exciting gala awards ceremony on 22 September.” said Paul Windsor, Senior Partner at WSM Partners LLP.

Companies were able to nominate themselves and customers and the general public were also invited to send in nominations. The Awards were free to enter and there was no restriction on the number of categories in which firms could be entered.

The Awards are run by South London Business and supported by Merton Council and Merton Chamber of Commerce – the Borough’s local strategic partnership which brings local organisations together to drive and shape enterprise in Merton. The Awards are sponsored by The winning businesses, due to be announced at a showcase ‘Oscar’ ceremony on Wednesday September 22 at the All England Lawn Tennis Club in Wimbledon, will each receive valuable publicity. The awards process also gives all the participants an added opportunity to network with other local firms.
