A NEW playground is set to open after a three-year campaign by two mums who were sick of their children having nowhere to play in the community.

The £40,000 state-of-the-art playground for children aged up to seven in Jubilee Field, off Balmoral Road in Sutton-at-Hone, will be officially opened on August 21.

This follows three years of fundraising by Jennifer Tremain and Kelly Hazeldine after they decided a playground was needed in the area because there were no outdoor activities for their children.

They gathered the money by holding fundraising events, collecting donations, and successfully applying for a £25,000 grant from Groundwork, a charity supporting community projects.

Mother-of-two Mrs Tremain said: “There is a huge sigh of relief to see the playground finally open, as at many points over the past three years it seemed near impossible it would ever happen.”

The 31-year-old, who lives in Barton Road, added: “Although it is quite small, at least it is somewhere for families to meet and play safely.”

Mrs Tremain says creating the playground has been a team effort, with a lot of help coming from Sutton-at-Hone parish councillors Chris Armstrong and Stephen De Winton.

Mayor of Dartford Councillor Pat Coleman, who will officially open the playground, and Dartford Council, Kent County Council and Kent police also supported the campaign.

Groundwork raised the £25,000 they donated through their partnership with Marks and Spencer, which sees the supermarket giving funds from its 5p carrier bags charge to the charity.
