A JURY has heard that police officers warned a woman not to walk home alone the night she was allegedly raped.
Norman Robinson, of no fixed address, denies raping the 29-year-old woman in the early hours of January 19.
Robinson, aged 43, allegedly grabbed the victim by the arm as she sat on a wall in Plumstead High Street.
The Old Bailey heard he led her to a garage behind the World of Jerk takeaway where he raped her.
Jurors heard the woman had drunk seven pints and three shots on the evening of January 18 during a work party in London.
The court was told that she fell asleep in a taxi on the way home so was driven to Plumstead police station.
A statement by PC Christopher Bryant was read out by prosecution barrister Adina Ezekiel.
He was on duty at the police station when a taxi driver informed them about the woman In the statement he said: “There, slumped and asleep, was a white female aged around 25-years-old.”
The court heard that once the woman was woken up and had paid the cab fare, she tried to walk off.
PC Bryant’s statement added: “The female then stated that she was going to walk off to Charlton as it would only take her 10 minutes.”
The PC warned the woman not to walk because she was alone and intoxicated.
PC David Payne, who was also on duty, said: “We had concerns because it was late at night in an area known for robbery.”
Officers called the woman a minicab to take her home but by the time it arrived she had left the station.
It was on her way home that she was allegedly raped.
The trial continues.
