THERE is a space theme to this year’s summer reading challenge for children.
Simply by reading books, children can help the crew of the Ex-Libris space ship to reach the moon and set up its first library, before they can be prevented by Spacekatz.
Children mark the progress of the mission by collecting stickers for each book they read, including some scratch-and-sniff ones smelling of of things such as chocolate and rocket fuel.
Other bonuses include a free Peeping Spacekatz bookmark, Space Hop pencil, DVD library vouchers and tenpin bowling vouchers, as well as medals and certificates.
There are also competitions and activities and a free draw to win an iPod.
The challenge, being held at all borough libraries, is open to children aged four to 12 with library card.
It is free and runs until September 4.
