PART of a redevelopment area which includes the troubled Ferrier Estate is to be rebranded as a “village centre” under new plans.
The proposals by developer Berkeley Homes for Kidbrooke went on show to residents at a recent exhibition.
They are part of the Kidbrooke Vision project, a £1bn scheme set to last up to 20 years which has already seen properties on the Ferrier Estate demolished, and the first phase of new homes nearing completion.
Now the developer has revealed details of The Village Centre, to the north of the site bordered by Kidbrooke rail station, which it hopes will become the project’s commercial centre.
A planning application is due to be submitted to Greenwich Council later this year and is likely to include a new supermarket, shops, a hotel, transport hub and community centre.
But Nick Russell from the Ferrier Residents Action Group said he remained worried about reductions in the number of buses servicing the development.
He said: “One of the main aims of the scheme was to improve transport links. At the moment that’s not happening.”
Chairman of Berkeley Homes John Anderson said: “We are at an incredibly exciting stage in the development, with the first new homes completing and public consultation underway on the third phase.
“The Village Centre will become the heart of the entire regeneration project and it has been interesting to hear what residents have thought about our initial proposals.”
Kidbrooke Vision will include 4,000 new homes, a new school and 50 hectares of green space.
