A FORMER Sunday league football side narrowly missed out on glory when they were beaten by a team of ex-Spurs footballing stars.
The Eltham Royals team reformed to play the match against Spurs Legends at Thamesmead Town FC’s ground in Bayliss Avenue, Thamesmead, to raise money for Delmelza Hospice Care for Children.
More than 400 people turned out to watch the match, which featured former footballing stars such as Mark Falco, Tony Galvin and Stuart Nethercott.
Special guests included ice skating star Jayne Torvill and Bexley mayor, Councillor Val Clark.
Despite being 3-0 down at half-time, the Royals rallied to finish the match narrow losers, at 5-4.
The event is expected to raise £6,000 for the charity, which now has a children’s hospice unit in Eltham.
