In this week's Reader Rant opinion column a mother from Bromley explains how her enthusiasm for recycling was destroyed. Have your say by adding your comments below.
I READ, with great interest, in News Shopper how Bromley is very keen on people being totally involved in recycling. I was an addict until Friday, July 23, when I turned. Now I have lost all interest.
I was perfect when it came to recycling, even annoying my children by going through their waste paper baskets and sorting out the paper from the rubbish.
In two weeks I always filled the black box and saved the extra in a cardboard box left alongside the black box.
This collection system worked marvellously until that fateful Friday when I looked out in horror and saw my hard work discarded by the collector.
He was not interested in the recycling but, just making sure that he did not overfill his wheelie bin, which at my property was half full.
There and then I decided that if the core collection workman could not be bothered with my effort, why am I wasting my time over the fortnight making sure all my paper was recycled.
Instead I took the offending box and burnt it and its contents at the bottom of my garden.
I did not take this lying down and complained to the appropriate people in LBB and, as expected, received a feeble excuse.
I shall continue to do my 'duty' and fill the black box I have - but anything over and above will be burnt.
