HOT weather is leading to more grass fires this year, according to the Fire Brigade.
Across Greenwich there were 121 grass fires in June alone - the most in any London borough.
There were also 44 grass fires in Lewisham in the first six months of the year.
People are being urged to fully supervise barbecues and make sure cigarettes are carefully disposed of.
London Fire Brigade’s Borough Commander for Lewisham Lee King said: “Grass can go up like a tinder box in these dry conditions, which is why we always see a surge in the number of grass fires in the summer.
"This so-called smouldering summer will undoubtedly continue unless people take greater care with things like cigarettes and barbecues.”
