A GRANDMOTHER who has celebrated her 100th birthday puts her good health down to a daily glass of brandy, which she calls her cough mixture.
Minnie Peel was born in 1910 in Poplar.
She married her husband John in 1935 but he died in 1969.
Mrs Peel gave up work in a factory in the late 1960’s to help her only child, Pamela, look after her daughter.
She celebrated her birthday with fellow residents, friends and her only grandchild Wendy Wright at Brook House Care Centre in Meadowford Close, Thamesmead.
Mrs Peel also received a telegram from the Queen and a letter from MP for Erith and Thamesmead, Teresa Pearce.
Miss Wright said “My grandmother has lived through two World Wars and lost my grandfather and my mother.
“She is an inspiration and I love her dearly.”
