DOG owners are being asked to volunteer their pooches for a position with the police.
Kent police is asking owners who feel they can no longer care for their dog to get in touch, so the animals can be trained to sniff out drugs, weapons and explosives.
The force currently has 50 working dogs at any one time, but it is always looking for more dogs to join the team in case of injury or illness.
Sergeant Tony Dyer, of the dog unit, said: "Often the dogs that make the best police dogs have more energy than most owners can cope with, and may be destructive because they are not getting enough stimulation.”
