GLASS slippers were the shoes of choice for Cinderella but Miss Bromley favours walking boots.
Beauty queen Emily Hedge is wearing them around her house in Valley Road, Shortlands, as she prepares for her trek up Mount Snowdon.
The 19-year-old hopes this sponsored walk will raise £2,000 for Help for Heroes and says having the boots makes her realise the enormity of what she is going to do.
She said: “Doing something like this is absolutely massive for me.
“I hope people see I’m committed.
“I really do want people to get behind me and sponsor me.”
The former Langley Park School for Girls pupil added: “I got the socks as well and I have started wearing them round the house to wear them in.
“I used to be just running like I usually do and now it is thinking I have to wear the boots for six or seven hours.”
Miss Hedge wants the money she raises by walking up Wales’s highest mountain to go towards rehabilitation centres for soldiers who have been injured in war zones.
She said: “They have the type of equipment there that could be used to build up the strength with the new artificial leg and help it work with the one you are left with.
“If you lose a leg then you might think you will be in a wheelchair for life but the rehabilitation gives them a much more positive outlook and it gives you a much better life.”
Her boots and socks were donated by Cotswold Outdoor, Nugent Centre, Cray Avenue, Orpington.
She added: "They believe in the cause that I’m doing and I'm very grateful to them.
“The boots they have given me are a really hard wearing pair [and] they have enabled me to do the trek to get the rehabilitation centres and equipment for the soldiers."
The store manager Paul Gaffikin said: “Cotswold Outdoor Orpington is very happy to be supporting Emily in her trip to climb Snowdon and her charity Help for Heroes.
“We wish her the best of luck for her trip.”
