A HOUSING association says 150 people attended an event to get tips on how to save energy and lead a greener lifestyle.

Gallions, Trust Thamesmead and Tilfen Land held an environmental day in Thamesmead town centre.

Visitors were also encouraged to visit Gallions welovegreen.co.uk website, aimed at raising awareness of environmental issues and providing a forum for sharing ideas.

People were also told about future events in the area, including canal clean-ups run by charity Thames 21.

The next clean-up takes place near Boiler House roundabout on August 7 from 9am to 11.30am.

Gallions communications manager, Emma Turner, said: “It was great talking to so many residents. They showed such a keen interest in the local environment - it was really encouraging.”
