TERRITORIAL army soldiers took a walk through history when they learned about a park’s past.
Former Home Guard member Richard Ewing, 86, told them how he had worked on the anti-aircraft guns in Jubilee Country Park, then called Thornet Wood, from 1942.
The members of the 265 (Home Counties) Battery, which is based in Grove Park and part of the 106 (Yeomanry) Regiment Royal Artillery (Volunteers), were interested to learn about the park’s role in the war first hand.
Friends of Jubilee Country Park chairman Jennie Randall who led the walk said: “I think they found it really enlightening and quite an experience, in particular because we had Mr Ewing.
“They found it amazing to have him there.”
