THESE pictures show what the proposed £45m Woolwich Civic Centre could look like.
Detailed plans for the 20,500sq m civic centre in Wellington Street, Woolwich, have been submitted by Greenwich Council.
They will be looked at by the Greenwich planning board.
The civic centre forms an initial stage of the Love Lane Masterplan aimed at regenerating Woolwich town centre.
Love Lane includes 1,000 new homes and Europe's largest Tesco store.
The civic centre will include community facilities such as a library, a reception and a business centre.
If approved, work on the new civic quarter for Woolwich will start on the site in spring next year and be completed by 2008.
Deputy leader and cabinet member for modernisation Councillor Angela Cornforth said: "This scheme will fit in with our proposals for the regeneration of the Woolwich area.
"It is intended to bring to the area expanded community facilities including a new library, new homes, and retail opportunities, which will further enhance the area and will be welcomed by people in the area.
"The submission will now go to formal consultation before a final decision is made."
Richard O'Neil, a director at HLM Architects, which designed the plans, said: "This new civic development will represent a centre of excellence and further improve the provision of community services, while adding to an integrated masterplan generated to encourage social integration and cohesion."
Resident Jim Atton, 61, of Flamstead Estate, Armitage Road, Greenwich, said: "I'd be interested in seeing the new civic block.
"Wellington Street needs to be developed. It has become quite run down with more and more shops leaving the area.
"If the new quarter helps provide more employment and regeneration to the area then that's got to be a good thing."
