A PENSIONER who disappeared from a hospital nearly a month ago has been found dead just 400m away.

And his brother is disgusted police failed to find his body when it was so nearby.

James Wynn, 73, from Woolwich, disappeared on June 28 while being treated for a heart condition and a blood clot in his leg at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup.

Mr Wynn’s brother Hugh told News Shopper police found James on July 22 after a passer-by became concerned about a strange smell.

He added James’s body was found in bushes in Sidcup Place Park, around 400m away from the hospital.

Retired welder Hugh Wynn said his brother liked a drink and it may have been possible he had wandered from the hospital after spotting a sign for lager across the park.

The 64-year-old, who lives in Primrose Hill, said: “He had been lying there since day one.

“It is a total disgrace. They only needed to take the dogs out to find him.

“Maybe they were just trying to save money.

“The police found him and needed dental records to identify him.”

He added: “I was the last to find out.

“A friend of mine who lives in Woolwich called me on Thursday morning saying something had happened as they were taking down the photos of James.

"I didn’t find out until 5.30pm.”

A Bexley police spokesman confirmed the death and said a post-mortem examination on James Wynn was carried out on July 23 but the cause of death was inconclusive.

She said a family liaison officer will speak with James’s family and invite them to meet Bexley police to discuss any concerns they have.

And she understands an inquest will be held but cannot comment on anything Hugh Wynn has said as they are waiting for the coroner’s report.
