A FARMER had to plough his cornfield to stop his house from catching fire in Crockenhill.
The blaze spread across 100 acres of corn and grass at the man’s farm in Eynsford Road and was surging towards the building.
Firefighters asked him to create a firebreak because the wind was blowing the fire towards his home.
The crews from Dartford, Orpington, Swanley and Sidcup spent around three hours battling the flames which completely destroyed the 100 acres of corn and grass.
But because of the firebreak they managed to stop it spreading to the farmhouse.
A spokesman from London Fire Brigade says the location where the fire started suggests it was probably started by the heat of the sun.
