PART of a residential street has had to be closed off after a huge hole opened up in the tarmac.
Angie Dunbar, a 36-year-old mother-of-two who lives in Barnehurst Avenue, Barnehurst, said the hole appeared in the centre of the road outside her house yesterday morning (July 21).
She said: “I drove the children to school. A friend of mine gave me a lift back and the hole had suddenly appeared.”
Not noticing the gap in the street, one woman drove her car into it before the affected area was eventually fenced off by the police and council workers.
People on the road had previously noticed there was a dip in the tarmac for around one week which had been getting deeper and deeper as cars drive over it.
Ms Dunbar said: “The council had just laid some tarmac down on it and then this hole appeared.
“It was probably about 4ft wide when I first saw it.”
Ms Dunbar said: “Apparently the area’s known for these holes.
“Before I moved in there was a big hole in my back garden. I have to get the kids to step gingerly when they’re out there.”
