A COUNCILLOR has resigned as chairman of a committee after his Labour colleagues failed to back him on an oil tax campaign.
Councillor Robert Woodbridge has stepped down from his role with Swanley Town Council’s community, heath, safety and environment committee after its meeting on July 14.
This follows three of his four fellow Labour committee members not voting for his proposal to urge the government to introduce a windfall tax on oil companies unless they reduce the cost of a litre of petrol or diesel to less than £1.
Cllr Woodbridge, who is deputy leader of the council, says he is feels he “no longer has the support of Labour colleagues” and is “disappointed” they did not support a campaign to help motorists.
