A NIGHTCLUB described by police as the number one trouble hotspot in Bromley is to be closed for two months.

Councillors were told of a catalogue of violent incidents and drunken behaviour at Jazzmins in Elmfield Road between November 2007 and May this year.

Evidence presented before Bromley Council’s licensing sub-committee on July 14 revealed failures in the CCTV system, door supervision, staff training and under age drinking.

The panel also heard the venue allowed entry and served alcohol to people who were already drunk.

Assaults leaving members of the public and staff injured also went unreported to the council’s environmental health department.

As a result councillors suspended the venue’s licence for two months to allow major changes to be introduced.

No representative from the premises attended the hearing as councillors were informed moments before it began that the club owner Extrare Limited had entered liquidation and ceased trading.

Twenty conditions were imposed on a new licence which include measures relating the installation of better CCTV, greater security and improved training of staff.

General purposes and licensing committee chairman Councillor Tony Owen said: “This was a serious matter and it was essential that the review was held.

“Although the club is closed at the moment and the company may be going in to liquidation, we must try to ensure that if the club reopens, the same problems are avoided.”
