A WOMAN who travelled down from Scotland to Sidcup for her brother-in-law’s funeral has thanked his friends and family for sponsoring her charity run back in Scotland.
Evelyn Stewart, 61, who lives in Lonmay Aberdeenshire visited the borough to attend the funeral of her sister Ann’s husband Billy Twiner, who died suddenly earlier this month, at his home in Fen Grove.
When mourners discovered she was taking part in the Race for Life, a women-only 5k event in aid of Cancer Research UK, many offered to sponsor her.
Mrs Stewart, who ran in Aberdeen, said: “It was typical Scottish weather on the day with rain just before the start, very cold and very, very windy.
“The race ran along the seafront, so you can imagine the North Sea wind blowing it in my face.”
She hopes to raise more than £300 from her efforts, with a lot of the sponsorship coming from the Sidcup area.
She said: “I would just like to say a big ‘thank you’.”
