A MULTI-million pound scheme has been launched by London Mayor Boris Johnson to get Londoners out of their armchairs and into sport.
The cash includes £340,000 for 120 sporting projects around London during the summer, such as family orienteering in Danson Park, Welling, and girls’ football at Bexleyheath School.
FreeSport is part of Mr Johnson’s £30m promise to create a sporting legacy from London’s 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
By investing in grassroots activities is is hoped to inspire more Londoners to get active.
There is also money available for organisations to improve their facilities, to train coaches for youngsters and for schemes aimed at improving health, social cohesion and tackling crime.
