BEXLEY’S young sporting enthusiasts bagged sixth place in this year’s annual London Youth Games.
The games, now in their 33rd year, involve young people aged between 11 and 19 from all the London boroughs, taking part in a variety of sports.
Altogether more than 600 Bexley athletes competed, starting with the qualifyin contests which began in February.
Bexley entered the largest team and competed in 47 of the 48 events, winning the girls’ cricket and girls’ artistic gymnastics.
The final weekend of competition took place at the Crystal Palace National Sports Stadium, where Bexley picked up first place in the mixed weightlifting, second places in boys’ squash and athletics and fourth place in indoor rowing.
Councillor Peter Catterall, Bexley cabinet member for leisure arts and tourism said: “The dedication, hard work and enthusiasm they put in to reach this level is astounding.”
