In this week's Reader Rant opinion column David H Cutler from Mottingham shares his view on who will really pay for the economic crisis. Have your say by adding your comments below.
IT WAS quite clear to me before the election that whoever won, the working people and the poor would be made to pay for the mess the greedy whizzkids of the banks and other financial services had got us into.
It is also clear that when the banks that taxpayers have bailed out eventually pay back what they owe the government, the ordinary hardworking men and women in the street will benefit little from it.
Before Nick Clegg joined forces with David Cameron for whatever reason, he said Mr Cameron assumed the right to lead the country with breathtaking arrogance.
Arrogance or not, David Cameron is nowhere in the same league of arrogance as the senior executives at Network Rail, who are sharing out more then £2m between themselves, at a time when many people are sickened with worry about their future employment.
To me this is a big two fingers up to the nation and a nose-thumbing too.
The people of this country deserves a strong government with guts which will not put the poor through financial pain so much but ask wealthier people who can afford to pay more to do just that.
I am only glad that I will soon reach the age of 65 and therefore have little to worry about employment-wise.
But I do feel for the many people who might lose everything they have worked for. I don’t doubt the government will hit most of us hard.
