TELEVISION celebrity Chris Tarrant has opened a sensory garden at a centre for children with learning disabilities.

The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter was at The Phoenix Pre-School Centre in Masons Hill, Bromley, to launch the second phase of its garden.

Mr Tarrant is patron of the Friends of the Phoenix, which raises money for the centre.

After the first phase opened in September 2008, fundraising efforts have since enabled artificial turf to be laid across the entire garden with gazebos and a variety of colourful and scented flowers.

Also featured is a huge mural depicting a peacock which was made using clay handprints of the children attending the pre-school.

Bromley Council's head of specialist support and disability services Helen Norris said: “We are fortunate to have received amazing support from local companies, including continued support from Beckenham Rotary Club, Linays, who held a charity Golf Day, Capitol Engineering, Orpington Promotions Group and Ornamental Garden Lighting.

"Our Friends and supporters have played football for us, cycled from Lands End to John O’Groats and danced the night away at our annual dinner dance.

"We are also delighted to have a number of fund raising activities on the horizon this year to be supported by The Bull’s Head in Pratts Bottom.”
