YOUNGSTERS from primary schools across a borough have been awarded for their environmental initiatives.
Lewisham Council’s ninth annual Clean and Green Awards scheme was entered by 25 schools and teams from each one attended a Town Hall ceremony to find out who had won.
The top prize this year went to Kelvin Grove School in Sydenham.
Its pupils focused on sustainable food as their theme and have built and cultivated several vegetable patches around the school grounds.
Presenting the awards, cabinet member for customer services Councillor Susan Wise, said: "It's clear from the response we've had to the awards this year that children in Lewisham clearly feel strongly about the environment and care greatly about the world we live in.”
