LONDON Buses has been rewarded for making public transport more environmentally friendly.
The subsidiary company of Transport for London (TfL) scooped the Low Carbon Champion Award for Buses at the annual Low Carbon Champion Awards.
Judges praised TfL's work in persuading other regions around the country to introduce low-carbon buses, while commending the capital's introduction of more and more hybrid buses which are fuel efficient, clean and quiet.
London Buses operations director, Mike Weston, said: “It is great to be recognised for the work we have already done in greening London’s bus fleet and we remain committed to progressing this further."
It is hoped there will be 300 hybrid buses in operation by 2012, with many of them up to 40 per cent less polluting than regular buses.
