FIREFIGHTERS were drafted in from across the area to battle a blaze in a cornfield in Bean, near Dartford, last night.
At its height 50 firefighters were fighting the fire which was raging in a 40-acre cornfield in Shellbank Lane.
Due to the large area affected, Kent Police lent Kent Fire and Rescue a helicopter to enable the incident commander to assess the situation from the air and help direct the firefighting.
Ten fire engines, including four from London Fire Brigade, and a water unit were called to the scene after the fire started at around 3.30pm yesterday (July 19).
The blaze was out by around 7pm and a crew from Dartford fire station did a final check of the cornfield at around 9pm.
