A STORY in News Shopper about a fundraising effort has inspired two truck company employees to head off to Rome this weekend.
John Reen, from Sherwood Park Avenue, Blackfen, was looking for a challenge to compensate for celebrating his 40th birthday this year when he read about the charity road trip to Italy.
Now Mr Reen, who works for Belvedere company Morgan Elliott, an HGV main dealer, and three friends are off to Rome on Sunday to raise cash for Greenwich and Bexley Cottage Hospice.
Travelling in a separate car is work colleague Nik Plant, 21, from New Addington, with three of his friends.
The Home2Rome event requires them to nurse an 1995 or older car costing no more than £150, for 2,500 miles across Europe, to Rome.
Mr Reen, who worked with the community radio station 103.7 TGR Sound before it folded, will be driving a BMW 320 while Nik has a Ford Escort estate car.
