CONTROVERSIAL plans to build a part four/part five storey block of flats off Crayford High Street, have been approved by Bexley Council.
The redevelopment of the former KT Coachworks car repair business off London Road, Crayford, will provide 30 new homes.
The building will sit behind the Bear and Ragged Staff pub, a locally listed building, and next to the Crayford Centre, a drop-in facility for people with mental health problems.
Bexley Civic Society and trustees of the GP Bakers Charity objected to the plans saying it was too high and out of proportion to surrounding buildings.
Crayford Community and Business Forum objected to the number of one-bedroom properties.
There were also concerns about the entrance into the redevelopment from London Road.
But after a lengthy discussion, councillors gave the plans the green light.
