A MAN will need facial surgery after an assault which left him with a broken cheekbone and nose.

The 33-year-old was walking across The Green in Welling, where a group of youths was playing football.

He ignored shouts from them, but on his way back a few minutes later there was an exchange of words and the football was kicked at him.

As the man turned he was punched and fell forwards smashing his face on some railings.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich and will need metal plates in his cheek.

Police are now hunting the footballers aged between 18 and 20.

One 19-year-old was arrested and released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Anyone with information about the assault on June 27 at around 7.15pm, should call 020 8284 9131 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
