A DRIVER who was on a ventilator after a car crash in Bromley Common is now breathing on her own again.

The 34-year-old woman has regained consciousness at Kings College Hospital, Denmark Hill, where she is being cared for.

She was brought there by air ambulance doctors on Tuesday evening (July 13) after being in an accident which also involved a silver Nissan panel van.

Magpie Hall Lane was closed from around 8.10pm while firefighters worked to free the woman by cutting the roof off her silver Vauxhall Corsa.

She regained consciousness and was placed on a spinal board before being taken to KCH by doctors from the air ambulance team.

At first it was thought she was just suffering from injuries to her face and back.

But she fell unconscious again shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Her condition was thought to be critical but it is no longer being classed as serious.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, where he was treated for shock.

Police closed Magpie Hall Lane from the junction of Holbrook Way to Green Way after the accident happened near Sunray Avenue.

The road was fully reopened at around 10.30pm the same night.

There have been no arrests.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the accident to call 01689 891212.
