A DRIVER is seriously ill in hospital after a car accident in Bromley Common last night (July 14).

The 34-year-old woman is on a ventilator and has been sedated in Kings College Hospital (KCH), Denmark Hill, where she is being treated for head injuries.

Magpie Hall Lane was closed from around 8.10pm while firefighters worked to free the woman by cutting the roof off her silver Vauxhall Corsa.

She regained consciousness and was placed on a spinal board before being taken to KCH by doctors from the air ambulance team.

At first it was thought she was just suffering from injuries to her face and back.

But she fell unconscious again shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, a silver Nissan panel van, was taken to the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, where he was treated for shock.

Police closed Magpie Hall Lane from the junction of Holbrook Way to Green Way after the accident happened near Sunray Avenue.

The road was fully reopened at around 10.30pm.

There have been no arrests.
