GIVING Lady Gaga a run for her money were the wierd and wonderful fashion statements dreamed up by students for a good cause.
The event was a Safari Fashion show organised by pupils at Bexleyheath School to raise cash to help renovate a primary school in Kenya.
Africa was one of the inspirations of the evening, held at the school in Woolwich Road, Bexleyheath.
Although the idea came from A level textile students the whole school chipped in, designing and making their outfits as well as African masks.
The show was opened by the sixth form African drumming band while other students did the models’make-up, performed songs, African dances and read African poetry.
There were recycled and faux fur clothes as well as tie-dyed, batik and block printed materials, and a message that importing textiles instead of fostering a home-grown industry is a growing environmental problem.
Local hair and beauty salons also donated their services.
The evening raised £350 for Kenya 2010.
