IT was Brazil versus France final in a World Cup themed football competition which saw Brazil lift the winners’ trophy.
In an earlier draw, 12 Thamesmead primary schools each chose a country to represent in this year’s Matthew Clarke seven-a-side football tournament for nine to 11-year-olds.
The tournament, now in its 12th year, was named after a football-mad pupil at St John Fisher Primary School and under-10s player at Thamesmead Town Football club, who died 12 years ago.
This year 120 pupils took part, the largest in the history of the competition.
The tournament consisted of 30 six-minute matches, with the final coming down to Parkway Primary School (France) against Jubilee Primary School (Brazil).
Winners Jubilee were presented with their trophy by ex-Liverpool and Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Bob Bolder and also received a DVD box set Destination South Africa featuring all the qualifying teams and top players.
The event is organised by Thamesmead Town FC and Trust Thamesmead.
