HURSTMERE School Sport Partnership (HSSP) has teamed up with Bexley district cricket development officer Richard O’Sullivan to develop girls’ cricket in the borough’s schools.
The programme aims to attract more girls to the sport and link them to a club so they can continue playing cricket outside of school.
Each school has received coaching sessions in recent months, which has been funded by the Hurstmere school sport partnership.
The teams then came together and competed in a competition at Bexley CC and Sidcup CC.
Schools involved in the programme went on to participate in the Bexley district girls’ kwik cricket competition at Sidcup CC.
Seven teams battled it out to become Bexley champions and in a very close final, Old Bexley CE Primary School beat Burnt Oak Junior School by 10 runs.
Both sides went on to the Kent county finals at Leeds & Broomfield CC where they met in the final once again.
Old Bexley completed a quick double when they won by 12-runs and both teams now go through to the SE finals at Hove later this month.
HSSP development manager Sue Allsop said: “The programme has been a huge success thanks to the dedication and high quality coaching from Richard O’Sullivan’s team of coaches. We have been really impressed.”
