A CELEBRITY gardener has presented an award to children.
Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins presented a silver award to pupils at Riverview Junior School in Cimba Wood, Gravesend, after they competed in the Blooming Schools gardening campaign.
The campaign, organised by the Royal Horticultural Society, encourages pupils to plant fruit and vegetables and create floral features.
Headteacher Rosemary Dymond said: “The children work so hard on their gardens throughout the year and this is a way of gaining recognition.
“The project gave a real community spirit and that’s what it’s all about.”
Mr Collins talked to the pupils about their range of fruit and vegetables, much of which is on the menu in the school’s canteen.
