MP Gareth Johnson has been chosen for a role in a new government department assisting the Ministry of Justice.

Prime Minister David Cameron has appointed the new Dartford MP to the Justice Departmental Support Group, where his tasks will include scrutinising planned new legislation.

Mr Johnson, who has 20 years experience as a solicitor, said: “It is a genuine privilege to be given this opportunity so soon after being elected as a Member of Parliament.”

The Conservative added: “I am really looking forward to supporting the new government as a member of this support group.

“I have built up a fair amount of experience with the way our judicial system works and I welcome the opportunity to put that experience to good use.”
